Microfibers
Plastic Soup Foundation
While scrolling on LinkedIn, I discovered the skills-based volunteering platform De Nieuwe Gevers. There, I came across a request for an animated video for Plastic Soup Foundation, and it turned out to be a perfect match.
The goal of the video is to raise awareness about an often-overlooked issue: how our appetite for cheap clothing contributes to plastic pollution. What many people don’t realize is that a large portion of affordable garments are made from synthetic materials: essentially plastic. These fabrics shed microplastic fibers when we wear them, releasing particles into the air, and even more so when we wash them, allowing them to enter our waterways.
Because these microplastics are extremely small and lightweight, we not only pollute our environment; we also inhale them. Plastic pollution doesn’t just affect nature and wildlife; microplastic fibers have even been found in human blood and lungs.
This project was not only a meaningful opportunity to contribute my skills to an important cause, but it also gave me the creative freedom to experiment and grow. I truly enjoyed bringing this story to life.
